Tier 4 Visa Holders

IMPORTANT: In addition to completing the FMC Sandwich Placement Details Form (as detailed above), you must ALSO complete the FMC Visa Tier 4 Placement Details Form as official Home Office correspondence needs to be issued by Bournemouth University to the prospective employer BEFORE a student can start the placement; this can only be done by the student completing the FMC Visa Tier 4 Placement Details Form. This should be done at least 14 days in advance of the proposed Placement start date.

You MUST NOT start any Placement until this process has been followed and the University has been able to issue the correct Home Office correspondence. You will be copied in to this official correspondence so you will know it has been issued. If you have already started the Placement, and not followed this process, you must cease immediately and inform the employer as to the reasons and notify AskBU (migrantreporting@bournemouth.ac.uk) and the Placement Office.

It is the student's responsibility to comply with this process. Failure to comply with this process means that you will be breaching the terms of your Tier 4 Visa. Bournemouth University will report any breaches to the Home Office and will take action against any student in breach of the regulations, which could result in disciplinary action and withdrawal from your course. For advice or information on Tier 4 Visas, contact AskBU (askBUstudents@bournemouth.ac.uk)

There is also a Media & Comms Placement Buddies site. Many students have said how useful it would be to talk to people who have been or are out there on placement, especially when applying to or having interviews at particular companies. Our answer is 'placement buddies' where level P and final year students have volunteered to answer questions and give advice about placements.

Please go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/mediaandcommsplacement/

You have already had Careers Education sessions in the first year on CVs, Covering letters and skillls so please update your CV accordingly and look at the examples in the Resources/documents on this page - Chronological CV and Finalist covering letter.

Check the Key dates on the right column and you must attend the Careers Education session this term and then the Placement Preparation session in February and there will be a Pre-Placement Seminar in the summer term.

We recommend that you regularly search on MyCareerHub and although you will see opportunities on the left side of this page under 'Placement Vacancies' you should ALSO do an Advanced Placement search, listing your discipline, on the regular CareerHub console.

NOTE: Please be aware that the vacancies listed in this MyGroup Microsite are normally already approved however on the general mycareerhub listings companies can upload their own opportunities/adverts which might not necessarily be approved for your course.
